Setting up Alternate Password DB Portable on a USB flash drive allows you to securely manage your passwords on any computer without leaving behind any temporary data, registry changes, or footprints. The application uses secure Blowfish 256-bit encryption to protect your data.

Here is how to set up and configure your portable password database. 1. Download and Extract the Software

Navigate to the official Alternate Tools Website to find the portable package. Download the ZIP-archive version (not the .exe installer). Insert your USB flash drive into your computer.

Extract all files from the downloaded ZIP archive directly into a folder on your USB drive. 2. Initial Application Launch Open your USB drive in File Explorer.

Double-click the executable file (typically named PassDB.exe or similar) to launch it directly from the drive.

Click on the Language menu if the interface is not in English, and switch it to your preferred language. 3. Create a New Secure Database

Click on File and select New to start a brand new password database file.

Create a Master Password: Choose an incredibly strong password that you will not forget, as it is the only key used to decrypt the Blowfish database.

Save the database file directly onto your USB drive (it will usually save with a .pdbx or proprietary extension). 4. Optional: Convert to a Standalone Executable

If you do not want to carry both the application and the database separately, Alternate Password DB allows you to merge them into a single tool: Open your active password database.

Select the option to convert the database into a standalone executable file (.exe). Save this new executable to your USB drive.

Why do this? You can now double-click just that single file on any PC, enter your master password, and instantly access your entries without needing the software folder. Important Safety Tips for Portable Databases

Set up Auto-Lock: Go into the application configuration settings and set a timeout duration. This forces the program to lock itself and request the master password again if you accidentally walk away from the computer while your USB is plugged in.

Backup Regularly: Hardware failure or losing a USB key is common. Periodically copy your encrypted database file to a secure, cold storage backup drive or home PC so you do not lose your credentials. Alternate Password DB Portable – Alternate Tools
